10 things to do in the greater Palm Springs area this week
The Coachella Valley is home to a number of events and activities to take part in during the hot summer months. In anticipation for these events, we've put together a list of things happening this week.

The Morongo Casino Resort & Spa is hosting an exclusive show featuring internationally renowned Chinese performers Della Ding Dang and Aaryn Cheung. Cheung is a TV and film producer, and Ding is a vocalist with 10 studio albums to her name. The pair will take over the Morongo Grand Ballroom this weekend with a show for new and old fans alike.

The Oak Grove Sanctuary in Palm Springs is putting together a fashion show fundraiser featuring styles from nationally published jewelry and interior designer Aneka Brown. Brown is know for her unique blend of modern African themes, rich jewel tones and calming California earth tones. Guests in attendance will enjoy music by Tommy Dodson and art by Jeff Howe of JC Howe, along with appetizers by Wholy Smokes BBQ. Proceeds from this event will go towards the Oak Grove Sanctuary in Palm Springs, which provides LGBTQ+ foster youth with resources and housing to support them in their transition from foster care into independent living.

Country music star Trace Adkins is set to perform at the Spotlight 29 Casino today. Making his debut in 1996 with the album "Dreamin' Out Loud," Adkins has released 10 more studio albums and two Greatest Hits compilations since. Over the course of his musical career, Adkins has charted more than 20 singles on the Billboard country music charts with various No. 1 hits to his name. Country music fans will not want to miss this concert by Trace Adkins. This event is only for individuals 21 and older.

The Coachella Valley Repertory is hosting Broadway and opera performer Lisa Vroman for a special cabaret show this week. Although her first Broadway show was "Aspects of Love" and she garnered massive acclaim from theater critics for her portrayal of Christine Daaé in "The Phantom of the Opera," Vroman is perhaps most notable for holding the title of first Broadway actor to play both Fantine and Cosette in "Les Misérables." Theater fans won't want to miss this event, which begins in the lobby at 5:30 p.m. for pre-show snacks and mingling.

Enjoy a night soak under the stars with this Family YMCA of the Desert-sponsored screening of the 2007 movie "Surfs Up." Tickets can be pre-purchased at the front desk of the Palm Desert Aquatic Center or at any time during the event until tickets are sold out. Guest are encouraged to bring towels to sit on grass areas as poolside seating is limited. Slides will be open from 7:30 to 8 p.m. Snacks and treats will be sold onsite by food truck vendors. No outside chairs/furniture and food or beverages are allowed (with the exception of bottled water).

Celebrate the 10th anniversary of renowned Palm Springs pool party/musical festival Splash House. This three-day poolside event focused on electronic, house and disco music will feature a variety of poolside acts during the day. A shuttle will be available to transport music fans across each host hotel so they are able to experience all the venues and find which one suits their tempo. After-Hours shows will be held at the Palm Springs Air Museum on the nights of Aug.v11 and 12 and will feature artist ODESZA, Maya Jane Coles, Phantoms and QRTR.

One of Las Vegas’ finest 1980s tribute bands, 80s Station is set to perform its musical tribute number to this era at the Agua Caliente Casino in Cathedral City. Featuring lead singers of the 80s band Loveshack, Matt Gucu (Devo) and Tiffany Fredianelli (Kate), the show will offer audience members the chance to experience their rendition of music from the true MTV generation. For over three decades, Hotel California has been recreating the sound of American rock band The Eagles, captivating audiences around the globe. The group is now set to perform at the Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa in Rancho Mirage, and members Andy Lapointe, Mike Dimoulas, Al Langlade, and Jay Riehl will demonstrate their commitment to capturing the original sound fans of The Eagles have come to recognize.

Korean vocal group Koyote is set to perform at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio this Saturday. Consisting of members Kim Jong-min, Shin Ji and Bbaek GaWith, Koyote is bringing its "Lets go Koyote" tour to the desert. With a career extending across 24 years, the group has become know for its signature dance and hip hop sound that debuted in 1998 with the hit song "Genuine."

The Historic Camelot Theatre at the Palm Springs Cultural Center will continue its Broadway to the Big Screen and Back summer film series this week with a showing of "Mamma Mia." Revisit — or experience for the very first time — this 2008 musical comedy starring Meryl Streep as Donna, an independent hotelier in the Greek islands, who is busy planning her daughter's wedding. Meanwhile, hoping to reconnect with her real father, the bride invites three men from her mother's past. Musical fans will love this ABBA-infused flick.
